From Scarcity to Hope: The Birth of Medical Bridges
In 1997, Drs. Patti Brock and Margaret Goetz embarked on a medical mission to a remote, mountainous region of El Salvador, determined to diagnose, treat, and heal underserved communities.
After a long journey, they finally arrived at the clinic where they would spend the week assisting local doctors and caring for patients. But as soon as they stepped inside, they faced a heartbreaking reality—hundreds of patients in desperate need of care, yet a dire shortage of medical supplies and equipment.
Despite their expertise and willingness to help, they lacked the essential tools to provide proper treatment. It was a moment of clarity: access to healthcare should never depend on access to supplies. From this challenge, Medical Bridges was born—a mission to bridge the gap between surplus and scarcity, ensuring that life-saving medical resources reach those who need them most.
From Garage to Global
Medical Bridges was born out of a simple yet powerful realization—access to healthcare should never depend on access to supplies.
Dr. Patti Brock, Dr. Peggy Goetz, and Hayne Blakely were determined to make a difference; they started collecting surplus medical supplies from the Texas Medical Center, loading them into a truck, and sorting donations in Dr. Brock's garage.
Bridging the Gap: Turning Surplus into Life-Saving Aid
What started as a grassroots effort has grown into a global mission. Today, Medical Bridges operates from a 30,000-square-foot warehouse, collecting and distributing life-saving medical aid to hospitals and clinics around the world. With each shipment, we bridge the gap between surplus and scarcity, ensuring that essential healthcare reaches those who need it most.
