Every month volunteers contribute over 1,200 hours of their time. Whether it’s sorting, packing or picking up donated medical supplies, volunteers are the heart and soul of Medical Bridges.
Physicians, nurses, and other medical professionals are invaluable helping to turn surplus into supplies.
OPEN POSITIONS:
TITLE OF POSITION: Group Volunteer or Individual Volunteer
SUPERVISED BY: Jessica Sedeno, Volunteer Coordinator
PURPOSE OF JOB:
To support the stated mission of Medical Bridges by assisting and/or performing day-to-day operations of the sort area and to be a helpful and supportive presence for Medical Bridges. Volunteers are vital to the organization in order to maintain a high level of service to countries abroad.
DUTIES MAY INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:
- Consistently and punctually report to selected shift
- Attend brief orientation session
- Collect and accurately sort medical supplies and equipment
- Data Entry
- Pick-up and drop-off of designated items and materials
- Communicate regularly with assigned supervisor as to concerns, issues, or ideas arising from the current project. Ask questions-do not be afraid, we need your assistance
- Answer telephones and direct calls (if appointed)
- Keep the sort area neat and tidy
- Dress Comfortably
- Uphold Medical Bridges rules and policies
- Assist with group management (if appointed)
COMMITMENT REQUIRED:
A minimum commitment of three to four hours per visit is suggested. Volunteer opportunities will be available Monday - Friday; 9:00 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. There are Saturday opportunities for this position.
QUALIFICATIONS NEEDED:
- Must be age 12 or older
- Basic computer skills and/or good handwriting helpful
- Flexible to changing situation
- Reliable, responsible
- Able to work independently as well as in a group environment
- Able to accept supervision
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks and detail oriented
- Good organizational skills
TRAINING/ORIENTATION PROVIDED:
Since the duties performed by the Medical Bridges Assistants are varied, training and work assignments are determined by an individual’s level of expertise to accomplish a task. Training is provided Medical Bridges staff.
